In a surprising announcement today via twitter, Cyberpunk 2077 Developer, CD Projekt Red, announces that users who purchase the game on Xbox One Platforms will get a free upgrade for the Xbox Series X when it becomes available!
The announcement follows a huge update on the Xbox Series X console Microsoft announced earlier today (more on that story later). One of the announcements is a feature Xbox has referred to as “Smart Delivery”, which will take into factor Xbox model you’re playing, and will auto load the best version of the game available on that platform.
For example, if a user were to purchase Halo Infinite on the Xbox One, and later chose to buy an Xbox Series X and load up their Xbox One copy of the game, Smart Delivery will upgrade the Xbox One version of the game into an Xbox Series X version of the game. The feature is designed to give players the optimal gaming experience based on the model of Xbox they play on.
CD Projekt Red is supporting this feature with their latest game, Cyber Punk 2077, which is due to release later this year on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. At the moment, CD Projekt Red said they had no plans to make upgraded versions of the game to release on Xbox Series X, and PS5, but this tweet all but confirms the Xbox Series X will at least receive an upgraded version that Xbox One players can get for free.
